We think causes that matter to the local community are important and offer our support wherever we can. Throughout the year our managed houses play host to a varied programme of community-based events, such as the Northern & Southern Quiz Leagues and The Pool & Darts League. In addition, our Head Office staff regularly support both local and UK-wide charity campaigns.
Welcome to your first pupdate of 2020 and to kick things off, we’re so happy to announce our current total is …
Thank you to everyone who banked their funds and helped us get that one step closer to sponsoring another life changing puppy. In our last pupdate, we welcomed Brearley (2.0) into the family and I’m delighted to include her 2nd pupdate below.
Our fundraising total at the end of 2019 stands at the incredible amount of £31,299.94!
Welcome to your winter pupdate, this period we have lots to report; some good news and some even better news!
Firstly, after hitting the incredible total of £30,000, we were able to put in for our 3rd Guide Dog! Our next boy will be called Cooper and we are eagerly awaiting for him to be born – which should be within the new year!
The Narrow Boat on Victoria Street in Skipton has long been known for its excellent casks & beer quality and this reputation has been confirmed with its 10th consecutive entry in CAMRA’s (Campaign for Real Ale) Good Beer Guide.
First opened in 1999, the pub has had the incredible number of 18 entries into the Good Beer Guide, having only missed one year due to a manager change taking place during the selection rounds, which meant the pub was unable to enter. No other pub in the Keighley & Craven Branch District has maintained such an achievement.
Every year in November, the nation marks the wars that have scarred our past and the bravery of the men & women who fought them.
On Sunday 10th November, we honoured all those who fought and are fighting by donating £1 per every main meal sold to The Royal British Legion. With your help, we managed to raised the incredible amount of £1,816.00!
Our thoughts go to all those currently fighting and their families & friends, as well as the innocent civilians caught up in the warfare.
We are incredibly pleased to introduce you all to our beautiful 2nd Guide Dog puppy, Amber!
Born on the 8th February, Amber is a Golden Retriever cross Labrador and joins her H&B brother, Brearley, on their journey of transforming from an uncoordinated bundle of fluff into a fully trained, responsible Guide Dog.
Without everyone’s hard work and support, we would have been unable to achieve our target of £20,000 and sponsoring 2 Guide Dogs so thank you very much!
Heron & Brearley has achieved its fundraising target of £20,000 for its charity of the year, Guide Dogs UK.
Marketing Manager, Marie Kinvig said; “Since April 2017, all our pubs and convenience stores have been fundraising through all sorts of events and activities. We’ve hosted pub quizzes, sporting challenges and sponsored fancy dress events and it’s been fantastic to see customers joining in and having a lot of fun while fundraising for this incredibly worthwhile charity.”
It's hard to believe Brearley has been with his Puppy Walker, Jane, for over six months now. We recently spoke to Jane to find out how Brearley has been getting on and what they have been up to.
Jane was pleased to tell us that Brearley is a soft, loving and fun pup who is keen to explore and always shows interest in training, which is lovely to hear. Brearley is a sociable boy and is great with people and children, although he can be a little 'keen' with other dogs, which has caused a bit of pulling whilst out on walks, but Jane has been working on this with lots of treats.
Brearley is now just over 12 weeks old and has been living with his Puppy Walker, Jane, since he left the National Breeding Centre a few weeks ago. Jane will be helping Brearley through the first year or so, and we recently caught up with her to find out how the pair ore getting along.
